Is Fasting Essential on the Carnivore Diet?
Fasting is a controversial topic. And the carnivore diet works with and without it. But it is about more than health. It has spiritual components. It is one of the oldest continuous health and religious practices in the world. Why does it continue to heal and harm people?
I find I naturally fast on carnivore. This is the best kind of fasting.
Thank you for putting into words what I feel when I fast! I feel ‘clean’ but I couldn’t explain the ‘ clean’ feeling. But much of what you said does! Thanks!!
It is not. Fasting serves no real purpose on carnivore. It encourages the body to store fat for survival and impedes weight loss. Also, if you’re not hungry, you’re not fasting. OMAD is not fasting, because you’re satiated all day.
@KmusikOne, uou and I agree on what fasting means to us. In my book, it’s always been a very bad word, along with “go on a diet”. I’m totally OK with not eating if I’m not hungry, and as a newbie carnivore, I frequently am OMAD, and nearly always 18/6, but I don’t think of that as fasting, because in my book, fasting means hunger, means pain, means deprivation, means something to avoid at all costs. I am on board with the benefits of fasting, related to autophagy, etc. I’m just not willing to suffer any pain to achieve those benefits. (at least not now).
@CarnivoreRabbi, I consider you to be my carnivore spiritual advisor, and I listen carefully to what you say, but when I’m hungry, my ability to think of anything except getting something to eat goes totally out the window. It does not make me feel closer to the spiritual, but much, much farther away and much more likely to succumb to temptation. I’ll try to keep an open mind about this, but at this point, I don’t feel optimistic that “fasting” will ever feel like a positive thing to me.
@tussah8874 I experimented with fasting before I started carnivore and a little during carnivore. It’s only helpful for people eating inferior foods, to give the body a break from the inflammation they cause. On carnivore, it gives me nothing but anxiety, as starving is a stressor.
Welllllllll
I am the typical broken record it depends and its personal 🙂
I do OMAD almost always but if truly hungry will eat again (rarely happens)
I am playing with fasting 48 and 72 hours and I do not like the first day but love the 2nd and 3rd and do think it can help IF you know why you are doing it
but is it needed I would say NOPE is it a tool in the tool box YES is my view
One of the comments someone said they got anxiety and yet I do not so does kinda show or prove this is individual to each of us
But the nothing is needed also depends on how far along what they are doing and their goal just way to many variables
IMHO not enough research testing on long term carnivores or those shorter term has been done so we have no real idea
Why I am a HUGE TRY IT TEST it on oneself and decide if it can help anything
And of course the religious side of it as you mentioned our bodies can do this and that has HUGE value/reason
Also look at folks like Dr Sean Omara he is into fasting and is doing his thing very well so yeah love the topic great points great vid of course 🙂
Natural fasting (or literally accidental fasting) is one thing. Fasting is however not required and OMAD is not necessarily better than 2MAD or 3MAD for that matter. Eat when you are hungry and never force a fast (unless maybe for religious or spiritual reasons).
Thanks. Great interview with Dave Mac!
I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you! Let’s do one together soon!
@@CarnivoreRabbi I’d like that!
I’d like to share how I first became interested in fasting but not sure that I’m allowed to post URLs. Please let me know the YT rules. Are your rules different? Who controls these things? Sorry…very confusing. Thanks
I look forward to your video’s. I appreciate how chill you are. Shalom
Thank you!
Great video. I do carnivore, and I usually eat one meal a day. Sometimes I’ll skip a day, which gives me a 48-hour fast. While I believe that it’s physically beneficial to do this, I think the best part is that it helps me break that anxiety that I get sometimes when food is not immediately available. It feels good to beat the addiction!
I did a 21 day water fast years ago and the biggest benefit was probably more psychological than physical…although the physical benefits were enormous. I realized that my dependency on food, and fear of going without, is almost entirely mental. Those 21 days cured me of worrying when my next meal would be. Food is supposed to be for sustenance and survival but modern culture has turned it into recreation.
Let’s be clear on one topic about fasting… one does NOT need to be religious in order to successfully fast. Spiritual? Possibly. I find the video above has a mixed message where it leans on the successful fasting dieter would need to be either religious or spiritual. What about those who do not consider themselves to be either?
Fasting can have benefits whether you are religious or not.
I appreciated your video @CarnivoreRabbi. Thank you!
I started intermittent fasting in October 2021 in conjunction with a low carb diet. I have lost 70+ pounds, reversed type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea. Fasting for me personally has been a powerful tool. Everyone is different so you have to see how your own body responds 😊
My fasting record is 12 days in a row…
